Lady Washington
Launched
in 1989, and operated by the Grays Harbor Historical Seaport of
Aberdeen Washington, the Lady Washington and her sailing partner
the Hawaiian Chieftan are travel the West Coast of North America
to “educate, inspire, and empower all those that cross her
decks.”
The Lady Washington
is a replica of the original Lady Washington which was launched
in 1750 and served as a Privateer during the Revolutionary War.
In 1790 the original Lady W, along with the Columbia Rediviva,
sailed around Cape Horn to the Pacific Northwest where it was
instrumental in establishing trade between New England, the Pacific
Northwest, and the Orient. Her presence helped to establish a
basis for an American territorial claim to what would one day
become the states of Oregon and Washington.
