Hamilton
Nevada, Ghost Town
In 1868 Hamilton started as a boomtown
and eventually 25,000 people of all types migrated to the area
where silver ore was for the taking. In 1887big-scale production
ceased and the population left just as quickly as they had come.
Today the town is abandoned with few of the buildings remaining.
Located in the White Pine Range
of eastern Nevada the town was the first county seat of White
Pine County, from 1869 until 1887, when a fire led to its replacement
by the town of Ely. The community was named for W.A. Hamilton,
a surveyor.
